Dexter Fortson Associates, Inc. (DFA) has been successfully involved in utility construction and support activities since its founding in 1982. Projects as large as $20 million involving a field force of some 225 personnel have been handled as routinely as the common, daily call-out field service.

DFA has built 115kV and 230kV transmission power lines through the swamps of north Mobile Bay for Alabama Power Company as well as dense 12.5kV distribution power grids for the coalbed methane and coal mining industries in Alabama’s Warrior Coal Basin.

DFA’s substation construction experience covers a broad range including specific purpose stations as well as large power utility transmission stations valued in the millions of dollars. In addition to utility related experience, DFA has constructed numerous similar installations for industrial customers in the southeastern United States. As a licensed general and MSHA contractor, DFA personnel are comfortable with all the field activities normally found within utility and industrial environments such as site preparation, foundation, structural, electrical, mechanical, and building construction.

From its beginning, DFA has been vigorously involved in the maintenance and daily operation of many of the facilities that it has installed. Complete design services and maintenance program implementation in addition to the construction itself is common in many DFA projects.

The Power System personnel commonly function as an individual entity or as support personnel to DFA’s power substation SCADA / Telemetry Monitor and Control Systems.
