Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)

The US Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requires all independent contractors operating a mine site to have a contractor identification number before the contractor begins specific activities and to report quarterly employment and production information on these activities.

If an accident, injury or illness occurs at or in conjunction with activity at a mine, independent contractors are required to report the circumstances of the incident to MSHA.
